OKLAHOMA CITY – A total of seven Southeastern Conference softball athletes were selected during the 2023 Women’s Pro Fastpitch Draft, held Monday night at the The Yale Theatre. The seven selections, from six SEC schools, mark the most of any conference during the 24-pick event.
Last year, the SEC led the way with four selections during the WPF’s inaugural 12-pick college draft. The professional league expanded operations in 2023 to include two more teams, and a larger draft pool.
Alabama was just one of five teams to have multiple players selected in the draft, joining Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, UCLA and Florida State. Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina and Tennessee each had one selection in the 2023 WPF Draft.
Only current college seniors were eligible to be selected in this year’s draft and players cannot sign any WPF playing contracts until after they’ve exhausted their college eligibility.
